I took Emily in to the Dr. yesterday to have a bump on her shoulder removed…this ”bump” has bothered Emily for some time, our family Dr. and I were sure it was nothing to worry about.
It was driving Emma crazy….so she named the bump…”Gaylord Faulkner” she is a strange kid, but that is part of her charm.

Gary
has been traveling a great deal, and I had moved into “super mom” mode.
Strong, organized and highly functional and able to leap six children in a single bound.

I can cook, clean, home school, spend quality time with my kids, encourage my friends, and
family and sleep for only 5 hours and start again the next day.
I was teaching my children the Word of the Lord, counseling anyone who needed encouragement, while making homemade soup…and exchanging my “quiet time” with the Lord for extended workouts in the morning.
After all, one needs a hard body for when ones husband returns from preaching…Oh, and why not paint the dinning room as well?

 It was only

noon
by the time Emily received the shots of anesthesia to remove her “bump” but I was spent.  I was on my cell phone discussing serious business in
Africa
and not fully aware of the procedure my child was about to under go.
I hung up the phone, and walked to where the Dr. had begun to carve out Emily’s “bump”. It was then that a saw the look on our beloved doctor’s face…it said: “This is worse than I thought”… Emily was growing gray and pasty, she was feeling the scalpel dig deep into her skin, she was about to pass out, when we laid her down on the table.
I spoke words of encouragement to her, and held her hand.

Then I saw all the blood, my child’s blood, and looked at the incision, four inches long, and down to her muscle…I looked at Emma’s face, visibly on the edge of falling apart….the room started spinning, I felt nauseous and sweaty, and everything started to dim to black.
The next thing I knew, the nurse that had been moping up Emma’s blood was holding ME.
She was talking softly to me and putting cold compresses on the back of my neck and my forehead…as I awoke to the sight of my cowboy boots while sitting with my head between my knees.
I was so embarrassed…I have always prided myself on my strength and my independence…but at the sight of MY child’s blood, I passed out!
Me, the mother of four wild boys.

I have endured countless emergency room visits after Saturday football and minor surgeries without out wincing.  Why today, the sight of my child’s blood was too much….?

The Word says, “The life is in the BLOOD”…it is the BLOOD of the lamb that washes us clean, it is His BLOOD sacrifice that saves us from eternity in Hell.
There is power in the Blood.
It was MY child’s blood that brought me to my knees… Turns out I am not as strong and independent as I would like to think…

I started today, alone with the Lord in my bedroom, I was late for breakfast, I was late for everything.  I did not accomplish half of what I had planned for the day…but I HAD to get back to the BLOOD of the lamb, it is after all our LIFELINE….in the blood, there is Life!

  2. Songs about the blood are seldom sung in the church…seems we sing hallmark cards now in some arenas

So sing it girl…redemption not possible nor is the remission of sins without the shedding of blood.

    Give blood , they say…unblemished, untainted…

Unless you have aids..or Hepitius C..I would imagine you were moved by surgery girls blood and her screams…the same as your compassion for those dear faces in Africa..

    You’re amazing!
