We wanted to bless our children in Nsoko with a big Christmas party this week; somehow we pulled it off. Our little “children of the dirt” each received a new outfit, lunch and a cupcake, as well as a care package filled with fruit, soap, candy and a TOY…It was a great deal of work, but I would have to say one of the best days of my life…..
Step one: in throwing a party like this is, first, you must humble yourself and pray, followed by a little, begging, groveling, and hardwork…I have zero pride left so the groveling is easy…
Casey Wells managed to get clothes for all our kids in Nsoko donated…I still do not know how she did it, (and maybe it is better that I don’t). and her sweet mother even sent a box from the States jam-packed with clothes. Thanks Patti! She and Jumbo drove an hour each way to pick them up and delivered them to a big empty room in our house.
Step Two: Alexis, Emilie and I spent a few “all-nighters” weeding thru all the clothes, washing, separating, and organizing them according to gender and size…we got a little loopy, and the girls put on a fashion show to ease the stress. As our deadline crept closer we bribed some of the “real life” team with food and chocolate, (young missionaries will do anything for food)…unfortunately they got loopy too, and another fashion show took place…eventually we were done with the clothing prep…
Casey and Emilie scoured the town for all the goodies, fruit and toys for the kids. It is not like we can just run to wal-mart or sams club, so it takes some real work….then they all had to be assembled into individual gift bags…not a small feat!
Somehow I was left in charge of making and frosting 200 cupcakes, of course this was right after a lightning storm and the electricity was still shaky, I am sure I had pink icing in my hair every time the electrian needed to tell me something…thankfully I had Noah and Caleb to help…lick the beaters, that is…
