All my life the word meek brings to mind "weak".
I have always wondered how the "weak" would get anything done, let alone inherit the earth.
I am not one to argue scripture.
Today, in a public place I had the rare opportunity to watch some world news. The sound however was turned off, so all I could do was read the occasional caption, and try to piece together what was happening in the rest of the world.
A boxer died from a gunshot wound, some British celebrity was on trial for crimes against children, Yuck.

Suddenly, the news flipped to "Africa Today"…the screen was filled with the disturbing scene; very large, armed African soldiers had converged on a shanty town.
In groups they were forcing men women and children to lie in the dirt with their hands on the back of their heads. Without any sound I did not know what part of Africa this happened in, nor could I figure out when or why.
I kept watching hoping for some insight.
The camera then closed in on two soldiers violently grabbing men, and shoving them with their guns towards the other villagers.
I saw the look on the captured men's faces, some were old and

feeble, others were young and strong.
But all carried the same expression, complete helplessness.
My heart dropped, and I gasped out loud. Looking deeper into the eyes of the abused men I saw something else, SHAME.
They were being humiliated because they were helpless, yet they themselves WERE humility.
They were weak, because of their circumstances, not their choices.

It was then that the Lord spoke clearly to me, "This is the meek that will inherit the earth"

It is the children, the abused, the old, the helpless, the forgotten, the sick, the young, the vulnerable, and the poor that will inherit the earth, that is the Kingdom of God. This verse took on a whole new meaning to me at that moment, and reaffirmed our call to serve them. They are the "meek" on this earth, but they are royalty in the Kingdom of God.
